Sewing Room-Make lower ceilings appear higher with customized built-ins that optimize vertical space.
This sewing, craft and gift-wrap station was designed into a nook of a basement laundry area. The plans included built-in cabinets which provide a great deal of storage to organize supplies and seasonal products. Straightforward Ikea boxes turn the spacious shelves into a clean screen and white paint keeps it fresh and glowing. The durable slate flooring is sensible and elevates the decoration.
Sleek Basement-Paint walls a dark and striking colour to get a cosy effect.
Stylist Arren Williams' cellar was designed to be both practical and beautiful. A contemporary sectional couch in a charcoal fabric can sit many people while two cane ottomans can be used as side tables or extra chairs. To make the perfect setting for movie night, Williams picked a thick, full-height velvet curtain to block out any unwanted light.
Hidden Guest Bed
Incorporate a guest bed into your current layout rather than putting up new walls for a separate bedroom. This Murphy bed uses a suspension system which makes it possible to lift with one finger. On each side of this queen-size bed, a niche in the wall acts as a side table and can be wired with a reading light. After the bed is folded upward, homeowners Barbara and Michael Purdy utilize the freed-up area as a work out area.
Work with plumbing.
Putting this shower beside the plumbing shaft made room for a freestanding sink in the small bathroom. New plumbing was added in the laundry area, and the HVAC ducts were raised to the ceiling joists to permit for as much headroom as possible.
Lower-Level Guest Bedroom-Wallpaper a wall rather than four.
In the 2009 Princess Margaret Showhome, the lower level was completed with fashion. A focal wall has been covered in a textured wallpaper while the others were painted a creamy white to maximize light. A table and chandelier lamps allow guests to select their preferred lighting.
